King Shaka International
King Shaka International Airport recently celebrated 1 year in operation after the brand new Durban airport was opened in 2010 in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.The airport is named after Shaka, the leader of Zulu nation in the 1800s. The airport is currently handling about 5 million passengers per year with a significant increase over the last few months. King Shaka International has won a number of awards including the Skytrax 2010/2011 best regional airport in Africa.
King Shaka offers all the required airport facilities in its new terminal building. Currently, there are no hotels located in the vicinity of the airport but there is accommodation located nearby. Also known as La Mercy, for the area it’s situated, King Shaka is not far from the famous North Coast of Durban with its many seaside holiday towns.
